O’Hare International Airport – American Airlines GEM Facility

Challenge

The construction of Runway 9C-27C required the existing ground equipment maintenance (GEM) facility to be relocated to accommodate the expansion.

Solution

This newly constructed 112,000-square-foot GEM building is a state-of-the-art facility for American Airlines. The facility includes 30 maintenance work bays, a fluids distribution system, a wash facility, as well as employee offices. Kapur provided control, staking, and construction layout services for the project which was built by F.H. Paschen.

Results

With the project complete, capacity has been expanded. The facility now meets the needs of the airport and the variety of equipment found at O’Hare.
