1981

Ramesh Kapur founds Kapur & Associates, Inc.

Wanting to create a new type of consulting firm, based on the principles that working managers should solicit work and employees should feel empowered to discuss the state of the business and bring ideas directly to the President, Ramesh launched his venture. To this day, Kapur maintains and emphasizes this nurturing atmosphere of teamwork and innovation.

Port Washington Road office opens.

With its first office briefly situated just east of I-43 on Brown Deer Road, growth necessitated moving Kapur southward to a house on Port Washington Road – a site we still occupy today.

1985

First WisDOT roadway project earned.

Having successfully mastered the ability to provide municipal roadway design, Kapur familiarized itself with the WisDOT Facilities Development Manual and its specifications, working with the WisDOT SE Region (formerly DOT Region 2) and earning its first WisDOT roadway design project — Becher Street in Milwaukee.

Corporate expansion constructed.

Outgrowing its available space, Kapur acquired a lot south of the Port Washington Road office, demolishing a house to expand the available office space by 15,000 square feet, which continues to host our administration, communication, transportation, survey, and municipal groups.

In 1990, Ramesh was photographed accepting the MBE Business of The Year award, coinciding with the completion of the new building. Just three years after receiving the Minority Business Enterprise Business of The Year Award following the opening of its new building, Kapur outgrew the WisDOT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise distinction, drastically shifting the narrative of what the company could accomplish on its own.

Site development added to service offerings.

Having previously provided site design services on an “as-needed” basis to municipalities for civic and residential improvements, Kapur hired dedicated staff to offer full-time civil/site design and development services — beginning with American Family Field, formerly Miller Park.
