Kapur provided design and construction management services for 11 separate alley sections, requiring coordination between multiple contractors, Village representatives, and residents.
Four alleys benefitted from incorporating green infrastructure into their designs, allowing permeable pavers to slowly filter stormwater into various types of stone, leading to drain tile that allowed water to exit the alley. They required on-site inspection to ensure the proper materials were used and that they functioned properly upon completion.
The remainder of the alleys consisted of 5 inches of asphalt over, 8 inches of base aggregate, and 12 inches of breaker run. Due to project constraints, they were designed to channel water toward the middle of the roadway and direct it away from the alley. Kapur’s team paid close attention to paving operations, allowing the stormwater to flow as designed and improving local drainage issues.
The final construction cost was under budget, with more than $85,000 saved for the Village.
