New gas main dense in a dense urban setting.

Kapur has performed gas main design for Peoples Gas on a task-order basis. To date, we have performed on 45 projects throughout the City of Chicago, in both dense residential areas and throughout downtown. The projects we have been awarded range in size from 800 feet to 7,000 feet, and we have redesigned small 2-inch mains to 16-inch large mains.

The projects we perform are considered non-program installation designs driven by sewer and water upgrades, system improvements, and new service requests. Typically, we work with Peoples Gas engineers relocating the larger steel main (4- to 6-inch) in the roadway and redesign the main to be two 4-inch plastic both out of the roadway and within the right-of-way. This makes future maintenance easier for both the customer and client and limits impacts to the roadway. All projects all include complete traffic control plans and details, as well as maintenance of traffic during construction.

Delivery is fast-tracked, and we complete our full topo survey and design within the first 2-4 weeks. This includes commentary from client feedback and final plans for review. The plans move onto the Chicago Office of Underground Construction (OUC) and the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), where they are further evaluated until an approved plan is achieved. The entire process can take up to six months from task award.
