This $100 million mixed-use development includes 220,000 square feet of office space, 67 residential units, 19,000 square feet of retail space, and a 103-room hotel on 6 acres of land purchased by Michels Construction in 2017. This prime riverfront location was only one of the many reasons Michels decided to build a new office in Milwaukee.
Besides a great location in the city along the Kinnickinnic River, there are numerous advantages to relocating to the booming Harbor District. Being minutes from downtown, the availability of a 180,000-person local workforce, access to GMIA, working 80 miles from Madison, and being 1.5 hours from Chicago are just a few of the reasons.
Unique to this development are the connections to the Kinnickinnic River and the bike trails. The restaurant overlooks the river, and the City has provided over $7 million in grants to pay for its share of the riverwalk and roadway reconstruction. The riverwalk is a section of the KK River Bike Trail, and as the development was completed in 2021, it created a new 1.5-mile continuous segment competed from Cleveland Avenue to the Harbor Boat Launch on S. Water Street (also designed by Kapur).
Kapur provided site design and landscape architecture services for the development's apartments, hotel, riverwalk, and café.
