Remaining open for car traffic while paving the way for pedestrian traffic.

The West Hampton Avenue Bridge project was a local program, three-party contract with Milwaukee County and WisDOT Southeast region. The project included preliminary and final design for rehabilitating the four-span West Hampton Avenue bridge over the Milwaukee River in the City of Milwaukee and the City of Glendale.

The project involved a field survey, structural survey report, hydraulic analysis, preliminary and final bridge design, and roadway design. The project included concrete surface repairs to the abutments, girders, and piers, the replacement of the expansion joint seals, the repairing and repainting of the decorative railing in its entirety, and the reconstruction of approximately 20 feet of the roadway approach on each end prior to the bridge deck completion of the polymer overlay. The project was constructed utilizing a staged traffic control plan to allow the roadway to remain open in both directions at all times, except for the occasional single overnight closure.
