A big part of Wisconsin’s biggest project.

It was the largest public works project in Wisconsin history, so when it came time to designate the structural lead for the award-winning Zoo Interchange Reconstruction Project, Kapur was a natural choice.

Providing preliminary and final design of 10 bridges and 15 retaining walls, Kapur’s structure design for the busiest interchange in Wisconsin involved complex structure geometry to mitigate freeway geometry and existing conditions. Bridges were designed of variable and multiple spans, adhering to Zoo aesthetic requirements.

Due to the nature of the four-level system interchange, Kapur structures staff were involved in extensive multi-discipline coordination that the concurrent design of mega projects demands, including coordination with freeway design teams, roadway design teams, drainage and stormwater management teams, utilities, construction staging, as well as electrical, signals, lighting, and ITS/FTMS design.
